ADOPT

Are you ready to welcome a cat or dog into your home?

Adopt a pet and you’ll not only change an animal’s life for the better, you’ll change yours too! There are so many great reasons for you to consider adding a pet to your family. Pets can increase opportunities to exercise, get outside, and socialize. Pets can help manage loneliness and depression by giving us companionship.

And just like humans, pets come in all shapes and sizes, ages and have a wide range of temperaments. Some of our animals have special needs, require medications or need training. We believe that every animal - perfectly imperfect - can thrive, with a good home and a loving human.

  • Adding a new animal to your household can be a great experience for everyone in your house - including your current pets. We strive to make sure each adoption is the best fit, and suggest the following methods for successful introduction:

We recommend bringing your new pet home and keeping them in a separate area of the home, slowly introducing the new pet to your current pet(s). Your family and our staff will talk about how to slowly introduce the pets to each other once they’re in your home, to allow all animals to settle into the new situation. We will talk through the steps to take if the new pet and your current pet are not a good fit.

We do allow introductions of your current pet to your potential new pet at the shelter, but in our experience, this interaction can be stressful and may not reveal whether the pets will get along in a home environment. However, you know your existing pet best and we will arrange this style of introduction if requested.

  • We understand that sometimes adoptions don’t end up being the best fit for families or the animals. If it doesn’t work out within the first 30 days, we’ll refund the adoption fee and gladly find a new home for the animal.

  • Do you enjoy the company of cats or dogs, and want to help out - but are not ready to adopt?
