Vernon County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit Program 10:30 am
Myk and handler Mark Bellacero will conduct a presentation highlighting the importance of K9 units to law enforcement, how Myk can be utilized to protect his handler or apprehend violent and non-compliant suspects, as well as how the program is financially supported.
Basic Dog Training Tips and Fundamentals 11:30 am
Driftless Dogs will conduct a dog owner’s session discussing the learning, communication and responding to basic obedience commands. Including: Command consistency, training timing, praise and reward, being realistic with training expectations. Stephanie will utilize a shelter dog to demonstrate teaching a couple basic commands.
New Dog Introduction 12:30
Lori Rockwell DVM will share in this session the importance of the new dog introduction. Whether the dog is being introduced to your family or your pack, learn the steps to ensure your newest family member is welcomed by everyone. Additional emphasis will be on creating interactions that allow shelter dogs to feel comfortable and safe to build life long compatible relationships. She will share tips for selecting your next dog, based on breed personality characteristics.

Walking tour of the DHS facility while discussing: How does the shelter help the community? How to volunteer with the shelter? How to foster or adopt?
All About Your Cat 11:00 am and 1:30 pm
Hannah Peterson from Animal Tracks Veterinary will discuss cat interaction, behavior, and keeping them happy and healthy. Topics covered will include: How to manage health and safety for my indoor/outdoor cat? How can I exercise my cat? What are the best toys (exercise, mental stimulation, scratching)? What can I do to encourage better pet co-existence?
